Punky the tripawd

Punky’s journey has been so complicated and it all started in March. I will be posting her whole journey with details so people can benefit from my experiences.

I am the proud owner of Punky! She is a tripawd dalmation mix. Her journey is a rollercoaster but we are in this together.

Knee tumor – The beginning

What a month March has been. I invited my mom to take care of my dogs one weekend when she noticed my eldest dog (Punky) was walking a bit funny. There seemed to be some kind of mass in her left back knee. That freaked me out because I hadn’t noticed that the day before so how fast was this tumor growing?? Luckily, I was able to get a visit with my vet quickly however she had to refer me to a specialty hospital because she suspected it could be a malignant tumor. Those specialty vets tend to be booked way in advance and we were lucky YET AGAIN to find an appointment within days. As soon as the oncologist/surgeon saw her, she suspected it was cancer and she should get her leg amputated. Woah…How did this happen so quickly? How can this dog that has such a joy for life and loves to run need to get her leg amputated? I had to at least try to get some answers before deciding to get her leg amputated.

To be honest, now that I went through everything, going through the journey of fighting for her leg was the best decision I could make for her. I tried every avenue before deciding to amputate her leg. Don’t ever feel obligated to get your animal’s leg amputated if there’s a slight chance it could not be cancer (which that was her case). After I decided I would work the steps to checking all possible options, it was an insane and crazy journey from there.
